AFP Web digital twin with Fraunhofer IGCV
Together with Fraunhofer IGCV we reached a milestone for the AFP web platform: an industrial lay-up review built for performance, efficiency and simplicity, demonstrated on a Coriolis C1.2 fibre placement cell.
What the project delivered
- Machine-independent input: AFP Web reads programmes from different AFP machines (.xml and .dat/.src robot code) and rebuilds the lay-up course by course.
- Optical and thermal reports for every course, checked against the process window.
- Defect analysis: gap, overlap and steering reports.
- Crystallinity estimate from the thermal history.
- The funnel demonstrator: a conical funnel simulated in AFP Web and compared directly with the part made at IGCV.
- DFM sign-off: one shared input (the robot programme), per-course temperature checks and a combined defect and thermal verdict in a portable report.

R&D project with TU Delft
A new research project with TU Delft and industrial partners, advancing thermoplastic composite manufacturing. OTOM contributes its physics-based process simulation and digital-twin expertise.
Industrial demonstration (WP3)
OTOM takes part in the project’s industrial demonstration work package, carried out by postdoctoral and PhD researchers together with industry. Its challenge is to translate a dormant design concept into practical applications that meet performance requirements and improve sustainability.
Lighter and safer
Lighter, safer and more sustainable composite structures.
Less emission and waste
Reduced emissions and material waste in manufacturing.
Energy transition
Supporting green aviation and the Dutch target of 21 GW of offshore wind by 2030.
The consortium brings together TU Delft and partners including NLR, SAM XL, TNO, Collins Aerospace and Witteveen+Bos, with OTOMcomposite.

ambliFibre
OTOM was born in the EU ambliFibre project (from 2016) as the adaptive, model-based control for laser-assisted tape winding of composite pipes and pressure vessels. It was the project’s first software to be designed, implemented and validated, with real-time temperature prediction for in-line monitoring.
